Royalty Boundary Stones

©2018 by Rutherglen Heritage Society.

Rutherglen Heritage Society has an ongoing project to keep and maintain a record of the stones which, historically, marked out the boundary of the royal burgh. Every few years, members of the society do, what is basically an audit of the stones, making sure the ones that remain, are all still where they should be. We take a note of their condition, measure them, and take photographs of them to update our records.

Heritage Society members John Esslemont and Gill Owen are seen here in a local churchyard on a rainy November afternoon, checking on one of these remarkable relics. See the Boundary Stones page in our Local History Archive for more information about the stones.
