Landemer Day 2024

The Heritage Society took its usual stall at Landemer Day with this year took place on Saturday 8th. June.

Above, Heritage Society Committee members Fraser Hamilton, Bob McDonald and John Esslemont at the

stall.

Despite the pretty much constant wind and frequent showers of rain, the day went very well.

More than 40 people visited the stall where they browsed through photographs of old Rutherglen and studied some vintage maps. These included one that Bob had brought along showing the mine workings of the old Farmeloan Colliery.

Also of great interest was a ginger beer bottle produced by Rutherglen's Caledonian Pottery works for a soft drinks company in Stirling. Many thanks to member Des Garrity for letting us have this for the day.

Bob gave out four copies of A History of Coal Mining in Rutherglen and Cambuslang for which we received donations for the Heritage Society funds. Bob is co-author of this book and was happy to sign copies given out.

Many thanks to John, Bob, Fraser and Jan Robertson for manning the stall which was at our usual location along at the Old Parish Church.
